Wood plastic composites were originally used for deck floors, railings, landscape timbers, cladding and other exterior building uses. They were touted as being more environmentally friendly and required less maintenance than their solid wood counterparts.
WPC was first manufactured as flooring by US Floors and was called COREtec. A vinyl sheet was placed over the poly composite, and was embossed to look like wood grain. Shaw floors have followed suit with a WPC construction of their own named Floorte, and this is only the beginning, as other flooring manufacturers are getting involved in what might be termed a breakthrough flooring.
