The unique manufacturing process involves steaming logs, creating thin veneer sheets that are then dried and layered to form a stable core. A solid hardwood wear layer is added, indistinguishable from traditional solid hardwood flooring. This layered structure grants engineered hardwood a notable advantage in moisture resistance, making it a preferred option for areas prone to humidity and potential wetness, such as bathrooms or basements. A major advantage of engineered flooring is the ability to have extra wide 7”, 10” or even 12” planks. Other advantages include the absence of bevels, providing a smooth, flat surface, and the freedom to experiment with hundreds of stain colors and finish options.
