Benefits

Hardwood Flooring Benefits

Both reliable and attractive on all counts, wood flooring has many benefits and attributes that may be overlooked. Here are some of the best reasons to get hardwood flooring.

VARIETY

Above all else, hardwood flooring has the most variety of virtually any other flooring choice. You can choose between pre-finished or unfinished hardwood floors, solid or engineered hardwood floors, herringbone or chevron patterned hardwood floors, and hardwood with borders, inlays, or medallions. There is an expansive number of hardwood species to choose from with a wide array of stain colors, grain options, and finish types.

STRONG & DURABLE

Hardwood floors are some of the strongest and most durable of all the flooring that you can have in your home. For the most part, they will resist abuse that other floors can't, and in most cases damage can be successfully repaired without having to remove a board or a section of the floor.

CLEANING IS EASY

Hardwood floor finishes resist spills, so a quick wipe using a cloth or a paper towel makes them as good as new. Dirt and dust can be easily removed with a broom or a vacuum cleaner, and a dust mop weekly may be all that is needed to keep your floor looking brand new.

ELEGANT APPEARANCE

Hardwood floors were the choice of Kings and Queens, nothing looks more elegant than a beautiful hardwood. Hardwood adds warmth and beauty to your home – few other flooring options can match it. Best of all, hardwood floors never go out of style.

HARDWOOD FLOORS ADD VALUE

Your house may be your castle, but when it comes time to sell, a hardwood floor actually adds value. Once installed, your home is labeled as a “custom home” as opposed to a “standard residence”. Homes with hardwood floors sell faster and can increase home value by as much as 5%.

FINISHES

You have a world of finish options for your hardwood flooring. Water based and oil based finish, UV cured finish, ultra durable aluminum oxide finish, non-slip finish, and others to choose from. Hardwood floor finish keeps your floor protected no matter where it is installed and allows for a world of customization.

HEALTHIER AIR QUALITY

With no fibers, grout lines or embossing, hardwood floors minimize trapped air particles like pollen, dust, animal dander and other allergens. With hardwood, the air in your home is cleaner and healthier overall.

TIMELESS

If properly cared for, a hardwood floor will outlast the home. Damaged hardwood floors can be readily repaired and worn hardwood floors can be easily refinished. As the decades go by, Hardwood flooring keeps its timeless beauty and ageless appeal.

Hardwood Flooring is constructed in four ways: Solid Plank, Engineered Plank, Unfinished Plank, and Prefinished Plank

Solid Hardwood Vs. Engineered Hardwood

Solid hardwood is crafted from solid wood, milled into boards with the potential for numerous refinishing processes, ensuring longevity. Solid floors are often referred to as “generational floors” as their durable beauty can span generations. In contrast, engineered hardwood features a layered structure, comprising a solid hardwood veneer or “wear layer” atop a core made from compressed wood fibers. Once installed, solid vs. engineered floors are undistinguishable. While solid hardwood offers extensive refinishing capabilities, engineered hardwood excels in moisture resistance. Typically, as hardwood plank width increases, boards become more susceptible to complications from moisture and thus engineered construction is preferred.

Unfinished Hardwood Vs. Prefinished Hardwood

Prefinished hardwood offers a hassle-free, immediate installation with a durable factory finish, saving time and reducing the mess associated with on-site finishing. While it is less customizable, the scratch-resistant coatings make it a practical choice. On the other hand, unfinished hardwood allows homeowners to tailor the color, species, and finish precisely to their preferences. This option is ideal for matching existing floors or achieving unique patterns. Despite a lengthier installation process, the absence of bevels between planks and smooth surface is another stylish characteristic of unfinished hardwood. Because the finish is applied on site, careful consideration of drying times and potential imperfections need to be considered with unfinished hardwood.
