The TERA Rift Collection represents the pinnacle of refinement and craftsmanship within the TERA hardwood line. Crafted from premium American Oak and milled using the rift sawing method, this collection delivers an exceptionally clean, linear grain pattern with minimal variation. The result is a sophisticated, architectural aesthetic prized in high-end residential and commercial interiors where precision, balance, and subtle elegance matter most.

As with all TERA hardwood, the Rift Collection is produced in extra-long random lengths up to 10 feet, creating a seamless, elevated installation with fewer end joints and a heightened sense of scale. Available in a wide range of widths from 4” to 10”, the collection offers unmatched flexibility—whether specifying narrow, tailored layouts or bold, modern wide-plank designs.

Built on TERA’s E3Plank engineered platform, each plank features a 3/4” total thickness with a 4mm solid-sawn wear layer, supported by a balanced 3-ply construction and a proprietary two-directional core center. This advanced construction ensures exceptional dimensional stability, minimizing expansion and contraction caused by temperature and humidity changes while preserving the integrity of the wood over time.

The Rift cut is a premium milling technique that produces a consistent, straight grain pattern without the swirls or knots found in character or plain-sawn grades. This creates a much more refined and “quiet” floor that doesn’t compete with other design elements in a room. It is specifically favored by architects and designers who want the natural warmth of real wood but require a modern, linear aesthetic that feels structured and intentional.

Rift-sawn boards are cut at a specific angle where the grain is perpendicular to the face of the plank, which fundamentally changes how the wood reacts to environmental shifts. Because the wood expands and contracts vertically rather than horizontally, it is significantly less prone to cupping, crowning, or gapping. This makes it an ideal choice for homes with large windows, radiant heating, or locations near the coast where humidity levels can fluctuate throughout the year.

Most standard hardwood flooring comes in much shorter random lengths, which can create a “choppy” appearance with frequent end-joints across the floor. By providing planks in random lengths reaching up to 10 feet, the French Vanilla Rift collection allows the linear grain to flow uninterrupted over longer distances. This creates a more expansive and luxurious look, as there are significantly fewer breaks in the floor, effectively showcasing the scale of the wide-plank design.
